The RiverTummel is a large, fastflowing freestone river, excellent for fly fishing. The water level can change unexpectedly due to the hydroelectric dam at Pltlochry - please be aware and fish safely. Wear a life jacket and a belt with waders, use a wading staff and ensure that you are certain of a safe exit from the water before you commence wading. Boots with felt soles and sharp metal studs are recommended. Rubber soled waders are unsuitable for this river.
Fishes best at the upper limit of the beat. Begin with a short line and gradually extend before moving downstream. Wade as little as possible, the fish are near to the right bank.
A superb pool that fishes best in medium to low water. The top end is Iovely for fly fishing but you must be very careful as the wading is deep and dangerous. The gap opposite the Edradour Burn is a good cast. The tail of the pool fishes well, walk up from the bottom and enter the water as far upstream as you can and wade safety down to Pol Dour.
A holding pool that contains decent numbers of fish at times. It is probabty the best high water pool on the river. Fishes well right from the top to the bottom, opposite the fishing seat and the tail are the most prolific sections.
A short low water pool but it requires a long wade from the right bank to reach tho gravel bar. Either wade straight out to the gravel bar or upstream towards it to ensure that you can retreat in saftey. Attempt to wade only if the gravel bar is clearly exposed.
Above the road bridge fishes well from the right bank and below the bridge. It fishes from either bank depending on the water height. A lovely fishing pool that is worth a cast at any water height
The pot beneath the spruce tree is deep and fast. It fishes best in low water.
A famous pool that can be fished by wading the cobbles from the left bank. There is a deep trench close to the bank where the river meets the backwater so take extreme care, check where you can cross the doep water close to the left bank before starting and do wade any further downstream. Otherwise you will need to make a very dangerous wade back upstream against a strong current. The remainder of the pool needs to be fished from the bank. On the right bank the water is deep apart from a few rock ledges which can be waded with great care, the rocks may be slippery and depth is deceptive.
